An invitation to burst out laughing
Since everything is but an illusion,
Perfect in being what it is,
Having nothing to do with good or bad,
Acceptance or rejection,
One might as well burst out laughing!
(From chapter 1 of The Great Perfection’s Self-Liberation in the Nature of Mind, by Longchenpa (1308-1364)
I love this quote. It reminds me of a time when I was studying Existentialism - in particular the work of Jean-Paul Sartre. I was sitting in a Starbucks Opera in Paris (the most exquisite location and the most un-Starbucks like environment - aside from the coffee of course), reading about how we are apparently all NOTHING pretending to be SOMETHING.
It made me laugh out loud with its simplicity.
It still makes me laugh when I think about that moment of realisation and resonation. I remind myself of it from time to time because it helps keep my feet on the ground and a smile on my face.
